Making the square corners is the most “difficult” part of making this quilted tote bag - and it’s not hard at all!

Step 1 - Mark and trim a 2” x 2” square (or your desired size) at both bottom corners. Use scissors, instead of a rotary cutter, to be more precise and avoid cutting into the seam allowance. Go slow!
Step 2 - “Pinch” the new seams together. This is the trickiest step! As you align the two new seams, push the side and bottom seam allowances in opposite directions to help the new seams nest, making it easier to sew. Secure with lots of pins. I prefer using pins to clips here because clips sometimes slip off this bulkier seam more easily.
Step 3 - Sew the seam using a 3/8” seam allowance, back-stitching at the beginning and end of the seam. (If you’re having trouble, you can first sew a basting stitch, using a 3mm stitch length and then go back over your seam with a shorter stitch length.) Finish your raw edges with a zigzag stitch for extra security.
Ta dum! You did it. You can flip your bag inside out at this point and check it to make sure you’re happy with your corner. Then, repeat on the other side. Happy sewing!
